Carriers generally bill the greater of actual and dimensional weight. Contract terms, service, packaging, and destination can change the applicable divisor and surcharges.
Current UPS and FedEx DIM divisors
FedEx publishes a divisor of 139 for dimensional weight in pounds for U.S., Puerto Rico, and international shipments. UPS publishes 139 for Daily Rates and 166 for Retail Rates in the United States. Both instruct shippers to compare dimensional weight with actual scale weight; the larger value becomes the starting billable weight.

Why does the calculator round up?
Carriers calculate with whole measurements and then round fractional dimensional weight up to the next whole pound or kilogram. Contract instructions can differ, so the rounding toggle is available.
Is this a shipping-rate quote?
No. It calculates weight inputs, not zones, service rates, fuel surcharges, residential charges, or negotiated discounts.
